The Liebster Award (with All New* 2016 Updates!)

Awesomely Stolen Bandwidth

I got awarded an extremely important award for Outstanding Achievement in Excellence.  Brikhaus nominated me, with others, for this Liebster Award thing.  Here is what it means:

The Liebster Award is given to a blogger who has less than 200 followers. Liebster in German means “beloved, favorite, dearest.” The goal of the Liebster Award is the help new or growing blogs connect with other bloggers. It’s a good way for readers to discover new blogs.

At first, I thought I shouldn’t qualify because this December will be my 5 Year On-And-Off-Iversary, so I wouldn’t say my blog is “new”, and my promotion is non-existent and my posting schedule is practically pre-menopausal levels of erratic.  I say that as a early-to-mid-30s man who knows nothing about menopause.  But being a man, I must assume I know everything, and that it’s either erratic, non-dependable, or basically non-occuring, which is how I like to schedule my posts.  So I wouldn’t call it growing, either.

Anyway, where was I going with that?  Oh yeah.  I probably shouldn’t qualify.  But since this thing is asking me to talk about me, and talking about me is easy, because I’m me, and I know what I’m thinking, I figured fuck it.  Let’s talk.

Not Another Peep… Not Another Peep…

Army of Grayskull

Army of Grayskull

Since all things must end, Evil Dead Week comes to a close.  It’s been a lot of fun going through the entire series this week.  If you’ve been reading and/or commenting along with me… Thank you very much for the support, and I hope you had even a sliver as much fun with it as I did.  I’ve really enjoyed rewatching the movies, and writing about them was interesting.  I don’t usually deal well with deadlines, so imposing a set of them on myself seemed like a setup for failure.  I’m quite pleased to report that I made each of them.

I’m also incredibly pleased that I was able to enjoy the new movie.  You might’ve noticed that nowhere since the review have I used the term reboot, or remake, in regards to it…  I’m pretty sure it can actually qualify as a sequel, rather than a hard or soft reboot, or a remake.  It seemed while watching it that the events that happened to Ash, Cheryl, Linda, Scotty and Sherry could very well have happened in this Universe.  I’m pretty sure the evil even whispers the name Cheryl to Mia at one point in the swamp.  Then there’s the whispered recorded messages in the background, as well as their appearance in the credits.  I wish I had kept better track of where I read things today, but I’ve been all over the place looking at Evil Dead stuff, I kinda lost track.  Anyway, this theory has been reported as confirmed by Alvarez and Raimi, and that supposedly a crossover movie will occur for Evil Dead 7:  Army of Darkness 2,  or whatever they plan on calling it.

I’m really glad I went through with this, as spur of the moment an idea that it was, particularly because I’ve never had the opportunity to really think about and discuss what I love about the series.  I’m glad I figured it all out before watching the newest entry, because it really laid out for me what Evil Dead was going to have to do to impress me.  If I hadn’t both watched and reviewed the first three this week, I don’t know if I would have really remembered just how different each entry is.  I certainly wouldn’t have noticed half of the references to the original movies that Evil Dead has.

Anyway, thanks for putting up with my endless yammering on basically a single topic for a week.  It was fun.

Evil Dead Week

The thought of going to a new Evil Dead movie for the first time in 20 years has me unreasonably excited.  It’s only showing on one screen in town on Thursday, and the old man and I will be there.  My level of excitement is particularly unreasonable because, aside from tweets from Bruce Campbell (@GroovyBruce), I don’t know a whole lot about the upcoming movie.  After learning that Sam, Bruce and others are on as producers, and hearing really positive reactions to the trailers, I put myself on Spoiler Alert Media Blackout.

I hadn’t even seen a trailer until last night, when they aired a couple during the season finale of The Walking Dead.  This post started out as a post-mortem on Season 3… but I scrapped it because while I was writing, all I wanted to do was watch the original Evil Dead.  That’s about when I realized that given the time frame, I could watch each of the existing ones, one a night, until Thursday.  And if I’m going to do that… well, fuck it, I might as well have my very first second theme week.

It got into my toys... and it went bad.

It got into my toys… and it went bad.

Of course, whenever I set out to do something on any kind of a schedule, it usually falls apart.  I don’t know that I’ve ever finished anything I’ve started.  Maybe Evil Dead Week will end up Review Grab Bag:  Evil Dead Edition.

Another concern that I have is that I’ve got myself so worked up about seeing this movie, that there’s a very real possibility that I might come away disappointed.  The last time I was excited enough about a movie to ignore all hype-generating media was for Star Wars Episode II…

Needless to say that didn’t live up to my expectations.

UPDATE:

The week’s over!  Here’s some easy links to the reviews:

And here’s the final page, where I go on about my thoughts on running through the series this week.

Who Is That Fat Guy With Glasses?

So…  It’s been a while now that the Blog has been going again and before real-life and virtual life start making it nearly impossible to show up here and complain about stuff, I’ve just started to amass some statistics.  While almost everyone that is visiting the site comes looking for Meanwhile in Canada… or the blank polaroid image in Fat Dad With Glasses:  Bachin’r, some people do come here actually looking for stuff to read.  It’s quite annoying.

However…  There are a number of viewers that are coming from various search engines.  Google, Yahoo, various bots, and whatever the hell Yandex is… which is, I’m guessing, some kind of Russian Yahoo/Google Hybrid wearing bikershorts and a fur hat.  About 90% of those people that get here from those search engines are looking for one thing:

“Who is that fat guy with glasses in…?”

Well, I’m nothing else if not helpful.  That’s why, to the best of my ability, I’m going to answer their burning questions.  As far as my statistics (both from here, and my old blogspot site) would imply, these are the 5 most important and often searched for Fat Guys with Glasses on the interwebs.  Even though they have obviously been given a numerical ranking, they are in no particular order.  There is also absolutely no empirical evidence to support my claims/rankings regarding the popularity of these fellows.  Absolutely no science was harmed in the making of this list.

I Got.

So almost 4 years ago, I made a post about a mind blowingly amazing new thing they were making. It was the beginning of the new Masters of the Universe Classics line.  Available only through Mattel’s online Collector’s store, Matty Collector, I was pretty sure I’d never be able to get one.  The price point was too high for me at the time.  I was between credit cards, so buying online was a huge hassle.  Since they were going to be a very limited run, I figured I would go without forever.

But that’s not the case.

Virtual Worlds

So, I wouldn’t exactly say I’ve been avoiding blogging, so much as I’ve been finding other things much more enticing.  After wrapping up Fight Night Round 3 (My Review:  It sucks) in a weekend shortly after my last post, I decided to take a jump into the virtual world of Fallout 3.

I’ve been treading my way across post-nuclear-apocalypse Washington, D.C. for a few weeks now, and it’s fucking amazing.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do a full out review of it, because I don’t like to review things if I don’t feel I’ve experienced them fully.  And I don’t know that I’ll ever experience Fallout 3 fully.  It’s that sweeping and massive of a timesink that I can’t see me finishing it before March 6th’s release of Mass Effect 3 which will likely the three quarters of 2012 that will be left after it launches.

I’ve also been invited to join a thing in a galaxy far, far away that I’m not supposed to talk about, so I’m not going to, except to say that it’s fucking awesome, even though I’m not supposed to talk about it.

I guess this is an apology of sorts, if you had been enjoying the somewhat regular posts I had been making.  I didn’t die, or get arrested, or run off stalking the douche who hacked Sesame Street.  Though his changing my routine may very well have lead to me blogging less.  But I had already gone a bit quiet before that, I suppose.  I’m going to try to set myself on a schedule of sorts, but I’m terrible at holding to schedules.

In the meantime, Dogmeat and I need to continue looking for my father.

Put That In Your Pipe And Smoke It.

So, I didn’t post yesterday.

I wanted to, but I couldn’t remember what it was I wanted to write about.  I did eventually remember what I wanted to write about earlier today, while at work.  But it was too late, as there are no internets at work.  So I was left to wallow in my forgetfulness, feeling old and stupid.  I told Mel that I had forgotten what I wanted to post about, but didn’t tell her what it was because I was going to post about it later.

But now that it’s later, I’m not going to write about it.  Now I’m going to write about how I was going to write yesterday, but forgot because I’m getting older, and later remembered when it was too late to do anything about it.  And also about how I didn’t tell Mel what I was going to post because I was going to post it, but now I’m not.
And there’s not a goddamn thing you, or anyone else can do about it.
